Homeless Issues #15

A Novel Idea? A Different Approach? Dignity and self Respect?
Let’s try it!
Job’s Shelters of the Sierra’s representatives are among the homeless four to six days of each week delivering necessities such as donated socks, tents, toiletries, sleeping bags and information. From early 2007 until this year we have been providing hundreds of coats, tents, sleeping bags and close to a thousand socks and rolls of toilet paper, effecting the lives of a hundred or more who have been made a little warmer, secure, and hopeful. But you already knew that. So What is NEW!
Presently our efforts are funded by small donations or through the generosity of the individuals involved. Our desire is to cover the present costs of operations and to expand the services of Job’s Shelters of the Sierra by making accessible the dignity of employment. In brief, we propose to employ four homeless or recently homeless persons to maintain a supply storage facility as well as distribute necessary items to the encampments of the homeless population on the west slope of El Dorado County. Our requirement for these employees will be sobriety or regular attendance of an AA, 12 Step, or other recovery program to overcome addiction. They will work a twenty-hour week and earn $8.00 to $10.00 per hour. In order to keep expenses at a minimum, administrative labor will be donated; all other costs are included in the Proposal.
Job’s Shelters of the Sierra, is a 501(c) (3) tax-exempt charitable organization.
All funds and activity within Job’s Shelters of the Sierra are accountable to our Board of Directors. All persons working/volunteering with JSS have signed a “Release and Waiver of Liability” form. Please see the attached for a cost breakout of this Proposal.
