Homeless Issues #87

Homeless Issue #87

Many have asked, “What are the Guidelines for guests on a shelter night?” Each guest agrees to the following. These guidelines have evolved over the years from the winter of 2009-2010 when the Nomadic Shelter kicked in at Cold Springs CC and Foothills UMC, 6 years ago. Year two, Green Valley CC, Solid Rock Foundation Center and Federated joined us. Let us keep it going!

SHELTER GUEST GUIDELINES
November 2015-April 2016
  1. There is absolutely no violence, weapons, sex, drugs or alcohol allowed on the premises.

  1. All guests must allow their belongings to be checked as they check into shelter for evening; only personal necessities will be allowed to stay with them. The shelter monitors have the right to lock up all items they deem unsafe or inappropriate.

  1. Smoking is allowed only in designated areas & times, cigarette butts must be put in can.

  1. If a guest leaves the property for any reason they may not return to the shelter that night.

  1. Men and women may only sleep in sleeping rooms, designated for each sex: ie, men in one area and women in another area.

  1. Guests need to check-in at the appointed spot at the shelter on the bus, no drive ups unless approved by shelter leaders.

  1. Guests not meeting these guidelines could be asked to leave for the night.

  1. Any items left at the shelter location or the van, after you leave will be disposed of.

  1. Each time a guest signs the rooster at the host shelter for the night they agree to these rules.

Failure to leave when asked by shelter monitors or for any serious problems may result in a call to the EDC Sheriff’s office or Placerville police.

No Nomadic Shelter for the El Dorado county homeless citizens on Tuesday and Wednesday nights and only two Saturday nights per month. Yes, in this below 40 degree weather. In the first few nights we had 22 guests in the Shelter, we had 27 last Monday the 9th. .

In my opinion, we and this county should feel guilty! Give the Nomadic Shelter a space and they will provide for its management.
