Homeless Issues #91

Millions of dollars for single homeless dogs, cats and other “critters” are expended for their care and welfare from our county coffers.  Single Homeless persons, “citizens,” not so much. ANY????  To illustrate; dogs and cats being walked or just meandering along our “walk ways,” stop and relieve themselves. A single homeless person, No Way! But no facility provided for a single homeless person to relieve themselves. A million dollar facility provided for the “wayward,” lost dog or cat in El Dorado County. But no facility provided for a single homeless person who is “wayward” and “lost.” Yes the dogs and cats can be a problem and also the single homeless person can be a problem. But millions for dogs and cats and nothing for single homeless persons. Does that compute? I suggest that issue be incorporated in the new Placerville City Police sub-station in the Dollar Tree parking lot. Have a public restroom open to all citizens of El Dorado County installed in this sub-station instead of closing down the one at the Mosquito Road bus station. Arrest and incarcerate those who vandalize the public restrooms and also those who are publicly intoxicated and bothering others. Instead of just “kicking” them down the road. Is that police department negligent in not doing that?

The Government (HUD) wants a count of the “Homeless persons” in El Dorado County, who have shelter. And they will take credit for providing shelter for the homeless. Next year they count “all Homeless persons.” The Nomadic Shelter has 113 homeless persons who have signed in on shelter nights. They are homeless. However, we average around 45 persons a night. Where the others sleep, if they do, or go, is sometimes a mystery. However, we are only allowed to count those who are in our “beds” on that night of the “count.” We know the others are out there and homeless. So when you read that the number of homeless is only XX. Double that number! And the County is given credit and the Nomadic Shelter given nothing.

Where are all the new faces in our shelter this year coming from? Parolees from Sacramento County being dropped off in El Dorado County is what I have heard. Does El Dorado County get compensated for accepting parolees from Sacramento County? Is it a transfer from Sacramento jail to El Dorado Jail then parole in El Dorado County? Again who gets the brunt of that influx? The Nomadic Shelter. And the county gets the money. Wasn’t Sacramento upset when Nevada sent people to be housed in Sacramento?

          The City Government of South Lake Tahoe,
             approved, supported and provided for;

“South Lake Tahoe Warm Room.”  7pm to 7am, daily, “A safe & Warm Place to Sleep.”  “Because Everybody Matters.” This is a government that provides for its citizens who have the very least.
          God bless you all in South Lake Tahoe!!!!
