Homeless Issues #127

We would like to introduce the newest members of our distribution team, Jerry and Betty Kyle. They have worked with the homeless population while volunteering at The Nomadic Shelter on Monday nights.
                   
                     
You will see them at Christ Like Services around 3:00 PM, then at The Upper Room at around 4:00 PM on Thursdays. We are fortunate to have this team of caring and importantly, knowledgeable people going out and distributing, socks, men’s and women’s underwear, toilet paper, T shirts, as well as hygienic supplies for both men and women, plus much more. When you see them, say “Hi.”

Well, it is warmer at night, and the rains have subsided, but being homeless is a revolving state of despair. I have been told that some or most of the homeless want to be living that way. I can tell you first hand, and not by hearsay, or political propaganda, or escapism, that no one wants to have to exist that way. Yes, the “hobo,” or “traveler” of years ago still do roam the world. They are the exception. The under educated, mentally and physically challenged, do not have the ability to care for themselves. The addict is racked with pain or is in a dream world, and habitually worries that they won’t be able to find the next fix. Dirty, smelly, and discouraged. No one wants to live like that, but due to all sorts of circumstance, that is where thy are.
 
Then there is the 80% of the homeless that are just not able to find work because of lack of education, physical abilities, burdened by past mistakes, and ageing without financial stability. The single, homeless person, that is homeless, unfed, is not prepared to face life’s challenge. Now, the single, homeless dog or cat gets housed, fed, and is prepared for life after their care at county expense. But not the single, homeless, person who finds themselves out on the street and destitute.

County cost of Animal Services as recorded in the County Budget:

$2,132,296.00

 
County cost of toilet, shower facilities, laundry facility, warm/cool shelter facilities for single, homeless persons in the County as recorded in the County Budget.   $ “0”
 

And we don’t see anything wrong with that?

Change those who control the County finances, the County mindset that treats their citizens less than they treat a homeless dog or cat. Yes, 80%-90% of our homeless where born in ED County, went to school in ED County, worked in ED County, married in ED County, and paid taxes in ED County.

Some of our Supervisors are responding and active. Encourage the others.
