Homeless Issue #162

Colleen and I were at The Upper Room on Thursday to interduce Colleen to those homeless individuals congregating at The Upper Room on Thursdays. She will be distributing the “Necessities” on Thursdays. Charlie was giving out bags of food to our homeless population as we gave out “The Necessities,” underwear, feminine hygiene necessities, toiletpaper, socks, razors, toothpaste and toothbrushes, washcloths, and a little “comfy” doll  that was given to us to give to anyone who felt they were in need of such. Colleen is a committed contributor to the JSS organization. Brian, he also goes to The Upper Room on Mondays to distribute the necessities. He also has been elected to the JSS Board of Directors.

I understand that the Covid-19 Ops Team is going out to three different locations during the week to provide for our homeless population that are out on the streets in order to try to keep them all in one area. They distribute the masks and hand hygiene kits. They also have a public health nurse who will be taking temperatures and getting basic diagnostic data.

I also understand that five persons as well as the three west slope homeless persons who are “high” risk in South Lake Tahoe, have been moved into a Motel for observation and confinement for a period of time. The plan, as I have been told, is that housing the variable homeless in a motel will grow as space and effectiveness of the plan presents itself. In light of that, those persons would like books to read such as uplifting fiction and western based books. You may take any books you want to offer, up to The Upper Room for distribution. John and Ron of JSS will be supplying that group at the Motel with the necessities for a hygienic stay while in the hotel environment.

                               …………………………………………

Through the efforts of the County Board of Supervisors the “Restoration/Navigation” facility is being formed to Restore and Navigate our homeless population to becoming productive members of our community. This is all new, not a rehash of old ideas. More will come as this idea matures. It is based on two other city/county projects in other states that has shown to be productive.
